Help Steve Ferguson!

Posted on October 21, 2008

Steve Ferguson

I received this message via the Rock & Rap Confidential email newsletter:

I’m Tom Staley (NRBQ‘s Original drummer)

Dave Marsh recommended I contact you to get the word out about Steve Ferguson.

I created a donations page at www.stevefergusonfund.com and I’m organizing a benefit here in Tampa at Skippers Smoke House. I understand Terry Adams is bringing his new band to Louisville for a benefit soon.

He is undergoing treatment (chemo and radiation) and is responding positively but it is really just buying him some time as it is bone cancer and has spread into his lymph nodes. He just started the treatment 2 to 3 weeks ago and remains resigned but upbeat about it all.

Donations are what is needed as he has a family and the medical bills are going to be huge.

If you could get the word out via E-mail that would help immensely.

If you have any further questions or ideas please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

Thanks and all the best,

Tom Staley

Here’s a quick NRBQ history lesson, courtesy of Wikipedia:

NRBQ formed in 1967 in Miami, Florida, coming together from the remnants of several other bands. The original members were keyboardist Terry Adams, guitarist Steve Ferguson, singer Frank Gadler, drummer Tom Staley, bassist Joey Spampinato (originally known by the stage name of Jody St. Nicholas). In addition to their instrumental prowess, everyone sang lead vocals at various times. The group relocated to the northeastern US and gained attention in local clubs. They were signed to Columbia Records in 1969, and released their self-titled debut album the same year. The record featured cover versions of everyone from Eddie Cochran to Sun Ra, along with a number of similarly wide-ranging original songs. The following year, the group collaborated with rockabilly legend Carl Perkins on an album titled Boppin’ The Blues.

Whatever you can afford to donate to Steve Ferguson‘s benefit would be wonderful. Again, the official website for donations is:
