RIP: Jon Lord / Deep Purple – LOUIE of the Week

Posted on July 17, 2012

Jon Lord of the band Deep Purple has left us.

From the Deep Purple Facebook page:

We are all deeply saddened by the news that Jon Lord has passed away today at the age of 71 after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer and was surrounded by his family at the London Clinic. Our most heartfelt sympathies go to his family. Jon Lord, a giant among men.

From my pal Stretch:

When I heard the live album “Made In Japan” by Deep Purple I said “wow, that’s cool…Jon Lord is playing Louie Louie”! During the song ‘Lazy’, he added a snippet of Louie, and for that Deep Purple is now part of the ever growing Louie Louie archives.
I’ll miss your brilliant keyboard playing.
Stretch

This week, the LOUIE LOUIE spotlight is on Deep Purple’s “Lazy” from the album “Made in Japan.”

LOUIE LOUIE kicks in at the 1:50 point.

Rest in peace, Jon.
