RIP: Perry Kurtz, a stand-up comic with an unusual version of LOUIE

Posted on August 22, 2024

Perry Kurtz was a stand-up comic that performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, America’s Got Talent, and Late Late Show with James Corden, where he performed an unusual version of LOUIE LOUIE on TV.

This may have been the first LOUIE LOUIE performance that used a tongue to operate a keytar.

Perry Kurtz told Shoutout LA in 2022 that he grew up in Philadelphia and moved to San Francisco in 1979. “I am a full-time, working comedian. I’ve never had a day job and have only made money making people laugh,” he told the outlet.

Sadly, Perry was killed last week by a hit-and-run driver. According to Patch.com, he had just finished performing at a nearby restaurant when he was struck crossing the street outside a crosswalk at 9563 Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, according to police and witnesses. The crash occurred at about 11:20 p.m. near the intersection at Corbin Avenue.

Kurtz died at the scene. Within hours of the fatal crash, police arrested an 18- year old suspect at his home on suspicion of felony hit-and-run causing death.

Here’s Perry Kurtz version of LOUIE LOUIE.
