The Fabelmans and the Kingsmen

Posted on March 3, 2023

Steven Spielberg recently unveiled what I believe is one of the best movies he’s ever created – an autobiographic story entitled “The Fabelmans.”

This film actually includes a quick little visual reference that ties into the LOUIE LOUIE universe. There’s a pivotal moment in this film when a promotional photograph of the Kingsmen is prominently displayed in the background.

For what it’s worth, this is a photograph of the Kingsmen as they existed circa 1964-1966, when the band was in the 4th incarnation, featuring two original members from the 1963 LOUIE LOUIE recording session (Lynn and Mike) as well as the three newer guys (Dick, Barry and Norm) that people would see on the various TV appearances during the 1960s.

For this particular film sequence, the photo of the Kingsmen can be seen on a bedroom wall of a teenage girl, wedged between images of Jesus Christ, Elvis Presley and other assorted individuals that inspired divine thoughts.

While I’m tempted to describe exactly what this particular sequence is all about and where it leads to, I think it’s better policy to avoid spoilers, and leave the rest for the imagination.
