I’ve been shooting videos of bands that I loved for many years. Some of the video I’ve shot I’ve shared by incorporating into various projects, or by posting fun little YouTube clips. There’s a lot of material I’ve shot I’ve been sitting on for ages.<\/p>\n

This week, I posted a 1992 clip of The Guttersluts<\/strong> to YouTube. They perform a unique mash-up, before the term was even used to describe the playful merging of musical pieces. One of the sampled songs was “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana<\/strong>, a track that some people have referred to as the “LOUIE LOUIE of the 1990s” because of the similiar 3-chord structure and the fact that it originally from the Pacific Northwest.<\/p>\n

The other sampled song was “Godzilla,” a composition by Blue Oyster Cult<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Put them together, and you’ve got “Smells Like Godzilla<\/strong>” performed by the Guttersluts<\/strong>. This particular performance took place on January 11, 1992 at the Cactus Club in San Jose, California. This particular show also marks their first appearance with Viv Savage<\/strong>, original keyboardist with Spinal Tap<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I added some extra footage from some outside film clips. I hope nobody minds…<\/p>\n

For what it’s worth, every member of the Guttersluts was a DJ at KFJC, the infamous radio station where the infamous “Maximum LOUIE LOUIE” 63-hour marathon<\/a> took place. Keyboardist Jessica Madonna De La Slut<\/strong> was a DJ at that historic event, doing an airshift as Tera Paige<\/strong> of the Peabody & Paige<\/strong> team<\/p>\n

Like Spinal Tap, the Guttersluts was formed initially as a joke, but tranformed themselves into an actual band. After 15 years of hibernation, the Gutterslults recently reunited for a special show a few months ago. They now have a MySpace page<\/a> and a Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n
