Their initial record was a 45rpm single that featured &#8220;Li&#8217;l Liza Jane&#8221;, an old standard on the A-Side.<\/p>\n<p>For the B-Side, the band covered &#8220;Louie Go Home,&#8221; a song written and recorded by <strong>Paul Revere &#038; the Raiders<\/strong> as an answer song to &#8220;LOUIE LOUIE.&#8221;   For this release, they renamed this song &#8220;Louie, Louie Go Home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2.jpg\" alt=\"davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7555\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2.jpg 591w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davie-jones-with-the-king-bees-liza-jane-1964-2-400x400.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NcKZl0EYhVI?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/NcKZl0EYhVI\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/NcKZl0EYhVI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As the story goes, David had to find another stage name when <strong>the Monkees <\/strong>(featuring the other guy named <strong>Davy Jones<\/strong>) emerged in 1966.  He chose the name of Bowie, inspired by 19th-century American frontiersman <strong>Jim Bowie<\/strong> and his namesake knife.<\/p>\n<p>Thus &#8220;<strong>David Bowie<\/strong>&#8221; was born!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davidBowie-portrait.jpg\" alt=\"davidBowie-portrait\" width=\"750\" height=\"450\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7557\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davidBowie-portrait.jpg 750w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davidBowie-portrait-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davidBowie-portrait-150x90.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/davidBowie-portrait-400x240.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, the world mourns the loss of <strong>David Bowie \/ David Robert Jones<\/strong>, who died of cancer, two days after his 69th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>He was an incredibly talented musician &#8211; a chameleon who refined the art of changing one&#8217;s persona with each musical release.  He defied labels &#8211; playing in the truest sense with the facets of music, fashion and sexuality.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I&#8217;m seeing a lot wonderful tributes, essays and commentaries about this extraordinary being.  <strong>Suzanne Moore<\/strong> of <strong>the Guardian<\/strong> wrote <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/commentisfree\/2016\/jan\/11\/my-david-bowie-alive-forever?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other\">a wonderful essay<\/a> on what David Bowie meant to her:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>My David Bowie is not dead. Nor ever can be. What he gave to me is forever mine because he formed me. I have absolute clarity about that, I need no lamentations from politicians or TV presenters with their dim memories of his \u201chits\u201d. I need no ranking of whether he was up there with Dylan or Lennon because I just know that is a dumb question. I simply know. He was my lodestar: in the years when I was trying to become myself, he showed me the endless possibilities. He extended out into the new spaces, metaphorically and physically. That man could move.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A few years ago in <a href=\"http:\/\/stardust-co-producer-ken-scott-discusses-working-david-bowie\">an interview with GuitarWorld<\/a>, producer <strong>Ken Scott<\/strong> discussed how it was like to work with David Bowie: <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>David was the most amazing singer I\u2019ve worked with; 95 percent of the vocals on the four albums I did with him as producer, they were first takes. I\u2019d get a level at the beginning and we\u2019d just go from beginning to end and that was it. No Auto-Tune, no punching in, nothing. Just complete takes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>David Bowie also had a wonderful sense of humor. When I attended the US Festival in 1983, I was working with KFJC Radio (home of the Maximum LOUIE LOUIE event of the same year), which allowed me media access to mingle with a lot of interesting people backstage.  One of the people I ran into at this event was author <strong>Ray Bradbury<\/strong>.   I asked how he wound up at this event.  Ray told me that David Bowie and <strong>Steve Wozniak<\/strong> (Apple founder\/ sponsor of US Festival) were big fans of his science fiction writings, and they made sure Ray was a honored guest at this very special festival.<\/p>\n<p>David Bowie also did a righteous thing by acknowledging my friend <strong>Norm Odam<\/strong>, aka the <strong>Legendary Stardust Cowboy<\/strong> (&#8220;Ledge&#8221;) as an inspiration for his <strong>Ziggy Stardust<\/strong> persona, inviting the Ledge to be a performer at his Meltdown Festival, and also recording a song written by the Ledge!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/exo3z-iIbgo?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/exo3z-iIbgo\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/exo3z-iIbgo<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VO96nhky0nY?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VO96nhky0nY\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/VO96nhky0nY<\/a><\/p>\n<p>.. and they did meet in <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.stevehoffman.tv\/threads\/the-legendary-stardust-cowboy.25417\/\">2002<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/bowie-and-ledge.jpg\" alt=\"bowie-and-ledge\" width=\"300\" height=\"270\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/bowie-and-ledge.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/bowie-and-ledge-150x135.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>David Bowie&#8217;s final album &#8211; Blackstar, released on his 69th birthday, starts off with the lyrics: &#8220;Look up here, I&#8217;m in Heaven!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tony Visconti<\/strong>, the producer who worked with David to complete this final album, released <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/celebritynews\/12092542\/Bowies-last-album-was-parting-gift-for-fans-in-carefully-planned-finale.html\">this statement on Facebook<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way.<br \/>\nHis death was no different from his life &#8211; a work of Art.<br \/>\nHe made Blackstar for us, his parting gift.<br \/>\nI knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn&#8217;t, however, prepared for it.<br \/>\nHe was an extraordinary man, full of love and life.
