There’s a few comments I thought I’d share from some folks that know something about the music business.<\/p>\n

First, my friend Jack Ely<\/strong>, former singer of the Kingsmen<\/strong>, voice of the world’s most recognizable LOUIE LOUIE recording, wrote an article for Counterpunch.org<\/a> entitled “Stop Sobbing About Free Music Downloads<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

The suggestions that recordings are produced today just to sell recorded music is all backwards and the sooner the record companies and producers and artists figure this out the sooner they will all quit sniveling over the fact that the entire world is freely sharing their music digitally and isn’t willing to stop; and in fact will do anything to circumvent their efforts to get paid for the recordings alone.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Second, the late, great Frank Zappa<\/strong> (1940-1993) talked about the decline of the music industry in some undated interview I found on YouTube. In this clip, Zappa makes the case that the older generation that didn’t really understand the “new music” was better for promoting the new stuff, rather than the supposedly younger, “hipper” music executives. <\/p>\n

Third, Howard Kaylan<\/strong> and Mark Volman<\/strong> of the Turtles<\/strong>, aka Flo & Eddie<\/a>, shared some of their comments on the music industry in this entertaining little clip that was posted to YouTube:<\/p>\n
