{"id":507,"date":"2008-12-22T00:16:41","date_gmt":"2008-12-22T07:16:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=507"},"modified":"2008-12-25T23:33:41","modified_gmt":"2008-12-26T06:33:41","slug":"jack-ely-courtmen-in-las-vegas-2008-louie-of-the-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=507","title":{"rendered":"Jack Ely &#038; Courtmen in Las Vegas 2008 &#8211; LOUIE of the Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve written about this year&#8217;s reunion of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=475\"><strong>Jack Ely &#038; the Courtmen<\/strong> at the The Sand Dollar Blues Room in Las Vegas back in October<\/a>.   The Courtmen was the band that Jack assembled after a court order prohibited him from using <strong>the Kingsmen<\/strong> name.  As you may or may not know, Jack was the original vocalist for the Kingsmen when they created that iconic recording back in 1963, but he never had a chance to tour with the original band after the big hit record.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s time to share some footage from that event, courtesy of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andymartello.com\"><strong>Andy Martello<\/strong><\/a>.  Here&#8217;s the 2008 version of LOUIE, which I&#8217;ve declared LOUIE of the Month.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/h3-Ggn3LwrA&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/h3-Ggn3LwrA&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Because my friend Andy has shared more great video from this show at the Sand Dollar Blues Club, I decided I&#8217;d post these clips as well. The second view shows the band performing &#8220;David&#8217;s Mood,&#8221; which was the B-side of  Jack&#8217;s &#8220;Louie, Louie &#8217;66&#8221; 45 rpm single.   This particular song was written by <a href=\"http:\/\/pnwbands.com\/davelewis.html\"><strong>Dave Lewis<\/strong><\/a>, a highly influential Northwest musician that passed away ten years ago.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t know who Dave Lewis was, <a href=\"http:\/\/pnwbands.com\/davelewis.html\">click here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/funky16corners.tripod.com\/9_dave_lewis_1.htm\">here<\/a>, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allmusic.com\/cg\/amg.dll?p=amg&#038;sql=11:w9fixqy0ldke~T0\">here<\/a>. There are some people that believe Dave Lewis was one of the FIRST musicians to ever perform <strong>Richard Berry<\/strong>&#8216;s LOUIE LOUIE back in the late 1950s, even if he never recorded it, but that&#8217;s another story in itself&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/aG6L2iHgtnM&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/aG6L2iHgtnM&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>For the third clip provided by Andy, the band performs the <strong>Paul Revere &#038; the Raiders<\/strong> sequel, &#8220;Louie, Go Home.&#8221;  Musicologists* often note that both The Kingsmen and Paul Revere &#038; the Raiders were from Portland, Oregon, recording LOUIE LOUIE in the same studio, less than a week apart in April 1963.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/14KEOZ6exgo&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/14KEOZ6exgo&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s yet another clip from that same show, which provides a nice overview of this event, despite some of the misinformation embedded in the graphics and YouTube description.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/qFiSfTKsW-I&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/qFiSfTKsW-I&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"425\" height=\"344\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><strong>* UPDATE<\/strong>: Jack provides a correction:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cMusicologists\u201d are wrong.
