I just saw an interesting trailer for the upcoming feature “Cadillac Records,” which is a docu-drama about Chess Records<\/strong>, which was the label that released big hits by Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Howlin’ Wolf<\/strong>, and Bo Diddley.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/param><\/param><\/param><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n

The big name in this production is Etta James<\/strong>, whose life story in this production will be re-interpreted by singer-actress Beyonc\u00e9 Knowles<\/strong>. Before Etta James recorded for Chess Records, she had her first big hit record in 1955 on Modern Records with the song “Roll With Me Henry” (aka “The Wallflower”) which featured LOUIE LOUIE-songwriter Richard Berry<\/strong> singing the part of “Henry.” Richard also wrote “Good Rockin’ Daddy,” which became her second hit record. As this film will focus primarily on Chess Records, and the man who ran it, Leonard Chess<\/strong>, I doubt there’ll be any mention of Etta’s early connections with Modern Records, or Richard Berry.<\/p>\n

This does look like an interesting film with some interesting casting of iconic figures in the music business. Adrien Brody<\/strong> will play the part of Leonard Chess, Mos Def<\/strong> will be Chuck Berry, Cedric the Entertainer<\/strong> does Willie Dixon<\/strong>, and Eric Bogosian<\/strong> will be Alan Freed<\/strong>. I don’t know who’s going to play Mick Jagger<\/strong>, but the Rolling Stones<\/strong> make an appearance in this film, as seen briefly in this trailer.<\/p>\n

By the way, Richard Berry was NOT related to Chuck Berry or Haile Berry<\/strong>, despite the rumors to the contrary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
