According to this man, all pop songs must be 2:42. Even one second, in either direction will ruin it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What else is at 2:42? \u201cDon\u2019t Do Me Like That\u201d by <strong>Tom Petty<\/strong>. \u201cDivine Hammer\u201d by <strong>the Breeders.<\/strong> \u201cHelplessly Hoping\u201d by <strong>Crosby, Stills &#038; Nash<\/strong>. \u201cGet Up\u201d by <strong>R.E.M.<\/strong> \u201cCalifornia Dreamin\u2019\u201d by <strong>the Mamas &#038; the Papas<\/strong>. \u201cThis Charming Man\u201d by <strong>the Smiths<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You need more proof? Jerk. Let\u2019s look at Sgt. Pepper. \u201cLovely Rita\u201d is two minutes, 42 seconds. It delivers that psychedelic vibe and a coda but then gets the hell out of your life.<\/p>\n<p>Compare that to \u201cWith a Little Help From My Friends.\u201d It\u2019s a mere two seconds longer but feels like it drags on for hours. Maybe it\u2019s Ringo, maybe it\u2019s the tedious melody\u2014or maybe it\u2019s the two goddamn seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Then over here we have \u201cGood Morning Good Morning,\u201d rightfully discarded by the masses as a throwaway. Why? Two minutes, 41 seconds. Hey, <strong>Beatles<\/strong>, maybe next time think about tacking on an extra second to give a song the grandeur and majesty it deserves.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Naturally, after reading this article, I had to check the time on LOUIE LOUIE.
