When “Brother Louie” was re-recorded six months after the release of the original Hot Chocolate release by a band called the Stories with singer Ian Lloyd, it became a number one hit in America.

Even though Ian Lloyd & the Stories had a very big hit record, and Ian also continued to have a successful solo career, collaborating with Foreigner, Ian McDonald, Peter Frampton, Billy Joel, among others, there hadn’t really been much touring outside the east coast in the past 30 years.

Luckily, this will soon change as Ian agreed to reunite the Stories for a few shows next month in Northern California. Rock and Roll Remembers is organizing some shows featuring Ian Lloyd & the Stories on a little tour that also includes the group Starz. The shows will also include Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad or Angelz, depending on which venues you choose to attend.

Here’s the official description of what Rock and Roll Remembers is all about:

Rock and Roll Remembers is a non-profit foundation established to aid and assist those within the history of the rock and roll genre who, for whatever the reason, have fallen on hard times. Seeing a void that needed to be filled, the establishment of this organization and it’s charitable trust seemed imperative. There is no retirement fund for rock and roll. There is no pension program for those who have given their life, their talent, their art to the music that has entertained billions around the world. It just seemed wrong. To see a problem and do nothing to fix it is the worst of all sins. And so we are here to lend aid, whenever possible and wherever needed, to those who gave us relief from the realities of this world through the gift of their talents. For them we want to say thank you and let them know that Rock and Roll Remembers.

So far, here’s a list of the shows:

April 5, 2008 – Tower Theater, Fresno, CA
April 8, 2008- Saddle Rack, Fremont, CA

For more information, check out

RockAndRollRemembers.org

The official Ian Lloyd webpage at his Machine Dream Records site

The official Ian Lloyd & Stories MySpace page

Richard Berry‘s LOUIE LOUIE composition isn’t the only great song that uses the lyrical stanza of “Louie Louie.” There’s “Meet Me in St Louis, Louis,” a song written by Andrew B.
