{"id":348,"date":"2007-12-03T21:04:07","date_gmt":"2007-12-04T04:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=348"},"modified":"2008-09-30T16:54:24","modified_gmt":"2008-09-30T23:54:24","slug":"historic-piano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=348","title":{"rendered":"Historic Piano with LOUIE LOUIE connections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/pix-2007\/lindahl-piano.jpg\" alt=\"Robert Lindahl in recording studio\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Today, I just found out that the <strong>Cindy Lindahl<\/strong> will be selling off her dad&#8217;s grand piano.  Her father, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=112\"><strong>Robert Lindahl<\/strong><\/a>, who passed away in 2006, was the original recording engineer for both <strong>the Kingsmen<\/strong> and <strong>Paul Revere &#038; the Raiders<\/strong>.  Both bands recorded LOUIE at <strong>Northwestern Incorporated<\/strong> of Portland, Oregon in the month of April 1963.  This piano was a regular part of the recording studio, and was used by by many musicians.<\/p>\n<p>What makes this piano particularly noteworthy within the LOUIE Universe is the fact that Robert Lindahl claimed that this was <strong>THE PIANO used by the Kingsmen<\/strong> for their iconic recording.   Take a look at this video that I shot for the documentary:<\/p>\n<p><embed src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/louvid\/flvplayer.swf\" width=\"320\" height=\"250\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" flashvars=\"&#038;file=https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/louvid\/Lindahl-piano.flv&#038;height=250&#038;width=320\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, I&#8217;m not a musician, and certainly not a piano player, but I don&#8217;t think that a 1952 Baldwin L Series Grand piano was used on the Kingsmen&#8217;s recording of LOUIE LOUIE.  To me, it sounds like a Hammond organ was used.  I never did ask <strong>Don Gallucci<\/strong> what type of keyboards he used to play, <strike>but I believe both <strong>Jack Ely<\/strong> and <strong>Barry Curtis<\/strong> confirmed that it was indeed a Hammond<\/strike>.<\/p>\n<p>For what it&#8217;s worth, Robert Lindahl wasn&#8217;t impressed with the Kingsmen.   He&#8217;d seen a lot of bands, and he thought these guys were pretty forgettable.  I don&#8217;t think it would unrealistic to imagine that he didn&#8217;t remember all the specific details of this particular recording session, which cost something like $50&#8230;.. maybe $38 for a 3-4 hour recording session.  <\/p>\n<p>Anyways, if you would like to purchase this historic grand piano, which was used by a lot of <strong>other<\/strong> musicians, check out <a href=\"http:\/\/cgi.ebay.com\/ws\/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&#038;Item=120191435464&#038;Category=43376&#038;_trksid=p3907.m29\">this eBay auction<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE: Jack Ely<\/strong> responds:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The piano used to record LL by us was neither a regular piano nor a Hammond B3.
