{"id":316,"date":"2007-09-13T01:19:02","date_gmt":"2007-09-13T08:19:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=316"},"modified":"2007-09-13T01:20:15","modified_gmt":"2007-09-13T08:20:15","slug":"garage-bands-from-the-60s-east-bay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=316","title":{"rendered":"Garage Bands from the 60s- East Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hard to do it all, especially when there&#8217;s more than one thing happening all at once.<\/p>\n<p>When I was attending the <a href=\"http:\/\/louiefest.com\/\"><strong>LOUIE FEST<\/strong><\/a> near Tacoma, Washington, there was also a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/fuzzfestnorthwest\"><strong>FuzzFest Northwest<\/strong><\/a> taking place in Portland, Oregon.   As I stayed close to the event organized by <strong>the Wailers<\/strong> and company, I missed performances by <strong>Strawberry Alarm Clock<\/strong>, <strong>Electric Prunes<\/strong>, <strong>Sky Saxon<\/strong>, and sadly, the final performance of the <strong>Chocolate Watchband<\/strong>.  I would have loved to attended both, but it was impossible to do it all.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, September 9, I attended a very special farewell party for <a href=\"http:\/\/villagemusic.com\/\"><strong>Village Music<\/strong><\/a>, one of my favorite record stores.  It was a power-packed event at the <strong>Great American Music Hall<\/strong> in San Francisco, featuring <strong>Bettye LaVette<\/strong>, <strong>the Collins Kids<\/strong>, <strong>Jimmy McCracklin<\/strong>, <strong>Sugar Pie DeSanto<\/strong>, and some famous rock stars.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/pix-2007\/eastbay-bands.jpg\" alt=\"borrowed from garagebandsfromthe60s.com\" \/><br \/>\nAcross the bay, there was a big book and CD release party the same day at <strong>the Saddle Rack<\/strong> in Fremont.  &#8220;<strong>The San Francisco East Bay Scene Garage Bands From Then and Now!<\/strong>&#8221; a new book compiled by <strong>Bruce Tahsler<\/strong>, in conjunction with publisher \/ promoter <strong>Bill Quarry<\/strong>, was re-issued as a second edition,  containing a wealth of photos and interviews from the fabulous 60s.   There was also a new CD from <strong>Ace Records<\/strong> entitled &#8220;<strong>You Got Yours- East Bay Garage 1965-1967<\/strong>&#8221; assembled by my friend <strong>Alec Palao<\/strong>. Some of the bands scheduled to play at this event included <strong>Tower of Power<\/strong>&#8216;s original horn section, <strong>The Spyders<\/strong>, <strong>Just VI<\/strong>, members of <strong>Peter Wheat &#038; the Fenderman<\/strong>, <strong>Just Truckin<\/strong>, <strong>Misanthropes<\/strong>, and <strong>Gin House Blues Band<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n<p>Luckily for those of us that missed this one, there&#8217;s a few websites with information about ordering the book, as well as photos from the big party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.garagebandsfromthe60s.com\/\">Garage Bands From the 60s.com<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.teensntwenties.com\/\">Teens n Twenties.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>(By the way, if you click on the &#8220;Bill Quarry&#8217;s Rollarena&#8221; link at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garagebandsfromthe60s.com\/\">Garage Bands From the 60s.com<\/a> you&#8217;ll see some cool posters featuring <strong>the Wailers,<\/strong> <strong>Paul Revere &#038; the Raiders<\/strong>, <strong>Quicksilver Messenger Service<\/strong>, and a lot of other bands you&#8217;ll probably recognize.)<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s hard to do it all, especially when there&#8217;s more than one thing happening all at once.
