{"id":2937,"date":"2011-04-11T04:58:43","date_gmt":"2011-04-11T11:58:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=2937"},"modified":"2018-04-11T18:33:52","modified_gmt":"2018-04-12T01:33:52","slug":"mike-wilhelm-hired-guns-louie-of-the-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/blog\/?p=2937","title":{"rendered":"Mike Wilhelm &#038; Hired Guns &#8211; LOUIE of the Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today is INTERNATIONAL LOUIE LOUIE DAY, and in about 14 hours from now, I&#8217;ll be on the radio yacking about that song, sharing some tasty LOUIE nuggets from the archives, and unveiling some special recordings that have never been broadcast.<\/p>\n<p>As I try to share a special LOUIE each week on this blog, today I&#8217;m  honored to unveil a brand  new version of the song by my friend <strong>Mike Wilhelm<\/strong> and his <strong>Hired Guns<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"480\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U_um75TOTYY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Born in Los Angeles in 1942, <strong>Mike Wilhelm<\/strong> learned blues guitar in his teens from legendary Tennessee bluesman <strong>Brownie McGhee<\/strong> and Texas songster <strong>Mance Lipscomb<\/strong>. A U. S. Navy veteran, he is perhaps best known as one of the founding members of San Francisco&#8217;s first psychedelic rock group, <strong>the Charlatans<\/strong> (1964-69). He led his own hard rock group, <strong>Loose Gravel<\/strong>, from 1969 until 1976 when he joined cult heroes and power pop originators the <strong>Flamin&#8217; Groovies<\/strong>, playing with them until 1982.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you Mike, for allowing me to among the first to hear this new version of  LOUIE LOUIE.
