There was one song that stopped LOUIE LOUIE from reaching that special destination.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.louielouie.net\/pix-2011\/singing_nun.jpg\" alt=\"Singing Nun\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dominique&#8221; by the <strong>Singing Nun<\/strong> was the big roadblock that stood in the way of LOUIE LOUIE.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, there&#8217;s now a new film about her life.<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"580\" height=\"360\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/KtZ2-iTCBsg?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;border=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/KtZ2-iTCBsg?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;border=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"580\" height=\"360\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>The (UK) Guardian had <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2009\/apr\/28\/singing-nun-jeannine-deckers\">a nice write-up about this project<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>She was the bespectacled nun who beat <strong>the Beatles<\/strong> to the top of the US charts, sparking a worldwide craze for singers in wimples before either the Sound of Music or TV&#8217;s the Flying Nun.<\/p>\n<p>Now the tragic story of <strong>Jeannine Deckers<\/strong>, known as the Singing Nun, has been reclaimed by her native Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>A new film, released tomorrow, tells the painful tale of the naive young sister from a Brussels suburb who eventually left her convent and took her own life.<\/p>\n<p>The story of her rise from an awkward convent novice to the Grammy award-winning guitar-strummer known as Belgium&#8217;s &#8220;<strong>Elvis Presley<\/strong> in a habit&#8221; inspired numerous stage and screen interpretations.<\/p>\n<p>In 1966, at the height of Deckers&#8217; success, <strong>Debbie Reynolds<\/strong> starred in a saccharine, Oscar-nominated Hollywood musical version of her life story.<\/p>\n<p>The producers weren&#8217;t to know how things would later end: with Deckers depressed, destitute and dependent on alcohol and tranquillisers, killing herself with her lesbian partner in 1985.<\/p>\n<p>New York stage plays, a British radio play and a cameo in <strong>the Simpsons<\/strong> followed in later years.<\/p>\n<p>The author of a French fictional autobiography, published this year, compared Deckers&#8217; life to that of a true rock star rollercoaster story such as that of <strong>Nirvana<\/strong>&#8216;s <strong>Kurt Cobain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The new Belgian film, <strong>Soeur Sourire \u2013 Sister Smile<\/strong> \u2013 faced an almost decade-long battle for funding and was finally made as a French co-production.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>For more information about this project, you can visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seeofsound.com\/p.php?s=MVD5016D\">MVD SeaofSound.com page<\/a>, where you can pre-order the DVD.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Back in 1963, LOUIE LOUIE by the Kingsmen was very close to becoming a #1 Billboard hit.
