This week’s LOUIE isn’t Richard Berry<\/strong>‘s classic melody, but the song “Brother Louie,” which is often mistaken for LOUIE LOUIE. Originally written by Errol Brown<\/strong> and Tony Wilson<\/strong> of the group Hot Chocolate<\/strong>, this song was a top 10 UK chart hit for the band in 1973, but it didn’t become a hit in States until it was covered by the Stories<\/strong>, where it became a Number One hit on the Billboard Hot 100 six months later.<\/p>\n

Ian Lloyd<\/strong> was the lead singer for the Stories<\/strong>, which eventually was renamed as Ian Lloyd and the Stories<\/strong>. A couple of weekends ago, he was one of the guests at the National Rock Con 2010<\/a> in New Jersey, a big rock and roll music festival that featured lots of musicians, including some other folks familiar to these pages such as Phil “Fang” Volk<\/strong> of Paul Revere & the Raiders<\/strong>, the Smithereens<\/strong>, Denny Laine<\/strong> of Wings<\/strong>, among others.<\/p>\n

If you visit YouTube, you can find a lot of great performances from this event, captured for posterity by Sue Glenwood<\/a>, who did an excellent job of documenting this show.<\/p>\n

Thanks to her efforts, we get to see Ian Lloyd performing “Brother Louie” as a duet with Mary Wilson<\/strong> of the Supremes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Their band for this features John Ford<\/strong> (of The Strawbs), Rich Ranno<\/strong> (Stories \/ Starz), John Hawkin<\/strong> (Strawbs \/ Nashville Teens), Jon Ihle<\/strong> (Ian Lloyd’s Stories), Danny Solazzi<\/strong> and Craig Colandro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
