Today, we learned that actress + singer Peggy Lipton<\/strong> died from cancer at the age of 72.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side,\u201d<\/em> Lipton\u2019s daughters said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times<\/a>. \u201cWe feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Born in New York on Aug. 30, 1946, Lipton began modeling at age 15, transitioning into acting at the age of 19, appearing in such TV shows as \u201cThe John Forsythe Show<\/strong>,\u201d \u201cBewitched<\/strong>,\u201d \u201cThe Alfred Hitchcock Hour<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cThe Virginian<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Peggy Lipton was 21 years old, when she rocketed to fame in 1968 when she played the role of Julie Barnes, a street-smart flower child that happened to be an undercover cop on the ABC crime series \u201cThe Mod Squad<\/strong>.\u201d This TV show, one of the first to feature an interracial cast, lasted for five seasons, earning her four Emmy nominations, a 1971 Golden Globe award for best actress in a TV drama, and the cover of MAD magazine!<\/p>\n

Apparently, she was also a girl friend of Paul McCartney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 1974, Ms. Lipton married music producer Quincy Jones<\/strong>. Together, they had two daughters, Rashida<\/strong> and Kidada Jones<\/strong>, who each became successful actresses. While the marriage ended 1990, it turned out to be the last and longest marriage for Mr. Jones, who had two previous marriages.<\/p>\n

In 1970, Peggy released a single of the song “Lu” (1970), written by Laura Nyro<\/strong>, a song that we at the LOUIE Report would categorize as a “LOUIE Mutant.” <\/p>\n
